Naphthalene-based Azo-azomethine Chemosensor: Naked Eye Detection of Fluoride in Semi-aqueous Media

A new azo-azomethine chemosensor containing active phenolic sites, H2L, has been designed and synthesized for rapid detection of inorganic fluoride over the other anions, such as Clˉ, Brˉ, Iˉ, AcOˉ, H2PO4ˉ, NO3ˉ, N3ˉ in DMSO/water (90/10) media. The 1H NMR titration revealed that the colorimetric response was considered to be the direct consequence of hydrogen-bond formation between phenolic gr...

This molecule has a very subtle chirality, which is determined solely by substitution of deuteriu...

Invisible to the Naked Eye

Cleanliness . . . and an early application of medicine and medical skill . . . were supposed to be specifics against the contagion. And to a certain extent there is some truth in these views; and i t is thus that God enforces on us, by his great and invariable laws of health, the necessity of attention to these sanitary measures. But, pushing that truth too fix, men began to map out the geograp...

Self-powered sensor for naked-eye detection of serum trypsin.

Here, we report a device for the detection of the proteolytic enzyme trypsin, which is a biomarker for pancreatitis. The sensor is self-powered, easy to use, and signals the presence of trypsin via a light-emitting diode (LED) that is visible to the unaided eye. Assay time is ∼3 h, and the limit of detection is 0.5 μg/mL, which is within the range required for detection of trypsin at levels sig...

Plasmonic ELISA for the detection of gp120 at ultralow concentrations with the naked eye.

The technique of plasmonic ELISA is utilised here to detect the HIV-1 protein gp120 with the ultralow limit of detection of 8 × 10(-20) M (10(-17) g mL(-1)) in an independent laboratory. It was corroborated that changes in the concentration of hydrogen peroxide as small as 0.05 μM could lead to nanoparticle solutions of completely different tonality.
